What is Assemblage?
Assemblage is a free wine tasting journal. You write down what you taste, and the app turns your notes into a picture of your own palate and, together with the notes of other tasters, into guides and rankings.
The name comes from winemaking: an assemblage is the blend of different grapes or batches that makes the final wine. This app blends many tasters' notes in the same way.
What you can do
Structured tasting notes
Describe a wine step by step: appearance, nose, palate and conclusion, with a rating from 1 to 10 and, if you like, what you paid.
Scan a label
Take a photo of a bottle label and Assemblage reads it and suggests the wine. You check it before anything is saved.
Your palate
Your own notes, summed up: which styles, grapes, regions and aromas you rate highest, how price relates to your ratings, and wines you might like to try next.
A journal you can search
Every tasting in one place, with favourites, so you can find that bottle again.
Grape and region guides
What each grape and region is, what wines from it usually taste like according to the tasters, and which wines to try.
Community rankings
The most tasted, top rated and best value wines, based on what Assemblage tasters actually wrote.
How the community figures are made
Guides and rankings show what tasters say in total. A figure appears only when at least 5 different people contributed to it, so a single person's notes can never be picked out. Individual notes, ratings and accounts are never shown on public pages. A wine's average rating, the aromas people noticed and the typical profile of a grape or region are all calculated this way.
Your notes are yours
Your tasting notes are private: only you can see them. You can start as a guest without an account and sign in later to keep your journal. The wine catalogue itself (wines, producers, grapes and regions) is shared and checked by an administrator.
Our weekly newsletter, The Cellar Report, may mention anonymous totals from Assemblage (always at least five people), never anyone's own notes. What it stores about subscribers is on its about page.
